Do you ever get hungry for perfect garlicy, smooth, classic homemade hummus? This is one of our families favorite treats. My kids go bonkers over dips and this one is a favorite. Even the two little guys love hummus. With my Blendtec it’s a breeze to whip up to smooth perfection.
Hummus makes a great base for an afternoon snack, party platter, packed lunch, or anytime treat. Since we’re gluten-free we skip the pita and dip our homemade hummus in veggies, organic corn chips, homemade or store-bought gluten free crackers, or any of the fun grain-free dippers on this page.
I typically soak and cook my own beans in large batches. I then freeze them so I can pull out a bag whenever I need them. This is the cheaper and healthier way to go, but if you’re in a hurry and don’t have any beans on hand, you can snag a can of beans at the store and this recipe will turn out just as good.
1 3/4 cups (or a 15 oz can) garbanzo beans
1 clove garlic
1/3 cup tahini
2 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/3 cup water (or enough to make it the consistency you desire)
juice from 1/2 lemon
- Place all items in a high powered blender, like a Blendtec. If using a blendtec, the mixer jar is a great tool.
- Blend until smooth. Add more water if the mixture is too thick.
- Serve with your favorite dippers.
